Red Arrows celebrate British Excellence at Monaco

There to highlight Superyacht UK’s (SYUK) presence at the Show, to celebrate distinction in the British superyacht industry and to mark Pendennis’ 20th anniversary the Royal Air Force display team performed a 30 minute routine in front of the outer breakwater at Monaco Harbour.  The stunning display brought the Show to a virtual standstill as they roared across Monte Carlo’s waterfront trailing red, white and blue smoke in their penultimate display of the season.

The organisation of the Red Arrows display results from the initiative of several members of SYUK, one of the British Marine Federation’s (BMF) flagship associations; led by Pendennis and supported by SYUK the group also includes Superyacht World, The Yacht Report, Underwriting Risks, Burgess Yachts and Devonport.

Toby Allies, Head of Sales and Marketing at Pendennis, said: “Having the Red Arrows perform such a stunning display and stop the whole Show in its tracks has certainly been a highlight, both for the British superyacht industry and, personally, for Pendennis’ 20th anniversary year.  We wanted to celebrate excellence and entertain visitors and this momentous occasion has undoubtedly achieved both of these aims.”

The event was followed by a SYUK evening reception in the British Pavilion which gave over 500 guests the chance to ‘Meet the Pilots’.  Superyacht UK representatives are attending the Monaco Yacht Show for the ninth year promoting the British industry.  Over 27 companies are exhibiting in the British Pavilion in the heart of the Show where Superyacht UK is providing on-site support for its members.

The occasion also marked the release of figures by the BMF and SYUK showing that the superyacht industry in Britain is thriving despite a difficult economic climate with the value of the UK superyacht industry now in excess of £350 million, an increase of 14.8% on 2007.  Businesses are also reporting an increased workforce with around 3,500 people now working in the sector; continual growth of the workload, especially in the export market, with almost three quarters of businesses reporting an increase in exports when compared to 12 months ago; and a healthy level of optimism about the future, with 92% of companies perceiving it as ‘excellent’ or ‘good’ with only 1% rating prospects as ‘poor’ or ‘very poor’.

Tom Chant, International Commercial Manager for British Marine Federation added: “The UK superyacht industry is showing a great level of success and it is particularly encouraging to see such an optimistic outlook for the year ahead.  We were pleased to be able to report such good figures here at Monaco and to have the Red Arrows mark such an occasion as they themselves are a powerful symbol of British excellence.

“Superyacht UK is working extremely hard to support its members in Monaco as they seek to promote British expertise and success to the international Superyacht community and we are looking forward to a productive and successful rest of the Show.”
