SYUK Technical Seminar 2017

Superyacht UK once again hosted their annual technical seminar on the 12th January 2017 at the London Boat show. The seminar is now well established in the Superyacht industry diary attracting delegates from all over the world. This year saw a delegate list of over 120 people from all different areas of the industry.

Following the conference welcome from Peter Brown of Burgess, the chairman of Superyacht UK, David Dingle the chairman of Maritime UK gave a state of the industry speech highlighting the work Superyacht UK carries out with Maritime UK to ensure the marine and maritime sector speaks with a single voice to government.
The topics within this year’s conference ranged from the Brexit panel discussion to current technical hot topics such as Cyber security and awareness. With highlights that included an interactive panel discussion looking at how Classification societies and Flag states work together with designers and architects to allow todays design concepts become reality (with special thanks to BMT Nigel Gee/Henry Ward Design for the use of their concept ‘Time’).

Other important technical areas covered included STCW certificate changes and new Engineer pathways for yacht engineers and the Red Ensign Group (REG) delivered a presentation on the new REG Large Yacht code which is combining the LY3 and PYC code into one code.
