OceanLED announces partnership with the world’s largest research and expedition ship

OceanLED, the global leader in marine LED underwater lighting, today announces its partnership and supply of specialised underwater lights for the REV Ocean project. REV Ocean is a DNV GL polar class research and expedition vessel and will be the largest privately owned ship of its kind in the world.
Due for launch in 2020, the ship will assemble international research communities in a joint effort to acquire more knowledge, create more awareness, develop new and sustainable maritime solutions.

OceanLED is very proud to be a part of this unique project and the many challenges it presented. Working closely with the Owners team from the outset and the yacht builder, VARD, OceanLED has helped to create an amazing lighting solution in addition to benefiting the operational features for this inspiring project.

The project presented many challenges, such as achieving DNV GL’s stringent pressure test requirements with our underwater lights exceeding 28BAR / 286 mH2O (Meters of water) and actually reaching 40BAR / 408 mH2O (Meters of Water) with the potential to go further.

The Rev Ocean project selected OceanLED as its perfect partner based on our previous successful installations on other Polar and Ice Class vessels and our ability for our products to operate in the harshest of environments.

“We are honoured that REV Ocean have chosen OceanLED to be their underwater lighting partner” says Charles Stuart, Managing Director of OceanLED. “This is a challenging and iconic project that we’re excited to be part of and are proud that REV Ocean recognise our ability to achieve their unique lighting requirements”.

As part of the key objectives of the REV vision to contribute to saving the world’s oceans, OceanLED has always been committed to protect our marine and fresh water environment as well as our natural resources.
