Pendennis News
Pendennis Shipyard operates an award-winning apprenticeship scheme that has now been running for over 16 years. During its history over 160 local young people have been trained on Pendennis’ General and Surface Finishing Apprenticeship schemes, acquiring highly specialised superyacht building skills. Over 80% of those apprentices have moved on to full-time careers at Pendennis, with several now employed at management and supervisor level.
National Apprenticeship Week has become a key focus in Pendennis’ calendar, during which we strive to promote the benefits of running or training on such a scheme. In 2015 this will run from the 9th-13th March, throughout which Pendennis will be posting photo albums to social media of our current apprentices at work in the yard each day, showcasing the large variety of trades and skills that local youngsters learn whilst training on a Pendennis Shipyard apprenticeship.
Also during the week, on Thursday 12th March, in conjunction with local company Granite Planet, Pendennis is organising a charity abseil. 36 current apprentices will be lowering themselves over 20m down the side of one of the yard’s recently completed office/workshop buildings to raise funds for Cancer Research UK, in memory of a colleague who we sadly lost recently to the disease.
