The sailing events start with the America’s Cup World Series in mid-December in Auckland, then the Sydney to Hobart on Boxing Day, the Prada Cup in Auckland mid-January, and finally, the Millennium Cup and the Moonen Yachts Sydney to Auckland Ocean Race both at the end of January 2021. The season will then culminate with the 36th America’s Cup!
The Southern Hemisphere is definitely the place to be this winter!
Space guaranteed
To ensure that you can get your yacht to this cluster of block-buster regattas needs careful planning. But, GAC Pindar is already one step ahead and has already made arrangements to get your yacht to the right place, on time.
Nick Crabtree of GAC Pindar explains, “We decided early in the season to reserve deck space with our supporting carrier BBC Chartering. So, whether you are coming from the East Coast of the USA, the Mediterranean or Hong Kong we have reserved deck space so that you can get your boat to Australasia in time. As a long-time specialist in the sailing arena we know what is needed, and have allowed for extra materials such as containers, spare masts and such like. Not only do we have deck space available to go south, but importantly we can guarantee your return trip in 2021! Also, as official logistics provider for the Moonen Yachts Sydney to Auckland Ocean Race, we can drop race contestants in Sydney before moving onwards to Auckland.”
Sander Shumman, of BBC Yacht Transport adds, “In collaboration with GAC Pindar, we are able to combine the longstanding expertise and contacts of GAC’s team in the sailing industry with the technical logistics expertise of the BBC’s organisation so that we can ensure safe, cost effective and timely transport. Our extensive fleet of 160 vessels, that form part of BBC Chartering, offer the flexibility, reliability and global reach that customers require.”

About the races
America’s Cup World Series
The culmination of the America’s Cup World Series will see the teams congregate in Auckland, New Zealand for the third and final event from the 17th – 20th December 2020. The regatta raises the tantalising prospect of the teams opting to race their second AC75s for the very first time ahead of the Prada Cup Challenger Selection Series in January and February 2021 and the Match for the 36th America’s Cup presented by Prada in March. Following the ACWS racing, a Christmas Race will mark the start of an exciting summer of America’s Cup action in Auckland.
NZ Millennium Cup – The South Pacific’s premier superyacht regatta
Organised by the NZ Marine Export Group and a dedicated committee of some of New Zealand’s most pre-eminent superyacht industry figures, the NZ Millennium Cup is a celebration of good racing, great cruising grounds and exceptional hospitality.
Drawing attention to New Zealand’s beautiful cruising grounds, skilled workforce and innovative industry, the event showcases the best of the superyacht sector in a relaxed, recognisably-Kiwi style. A key focus of the regatta is to encourage extended cruising within the country, and the committee will be working closely with the wider industry to ensure yachts are aware of the diversity New Zealand waters, as well as the opportunity for world-leading refit and repair services. The next editions will be raced on 29th January – 1st February 2020 and 15th – 18th February 2021.
Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race
Over the past 74 years, the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race has become an icon of Australia’s summer sport, ranking in public interest with such national events as the Melbourne Cup, the Australian Open tennis and the Boxing Day cricket test. No regular annual yachting event in the world attracts such huge media coverage than the start on Sydney Harbour.
Moonen Yachts Sydney to Auckland Ocean Race
For the first time in decades there will be a fully crewed yacht race from Australia to New Zealand. The race will start on Sydney Harbour on 30th January 2021 and finish in Auckland Harbour in time to help the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron celebrate their 150th Anniversary and enjoy the 36th Americas Cup. This challenging Category 1 race is open to offshore cruising and racing yachts, Superyachts, ocean racing multihulls, as well as incorporating a rally for cruisers.
