Burgess team at Monaco Yacht Show 2019With over 40 years at the forefront of the superyacht market and 13 offices worldwide, Burgess is the global leader for brokerage, charter, operational management and new-build advisory services for yachts over 30m (100ft). It recently released news of its success in 2018 and is forecasting a strong 2019.
Topline for Brokerage
Burgess made sales of over US$1,000,000,000, selling over 1.5km of superyachts. These included the 110.1m Jubilee (Oceanco 2017), the 95m Indian Empress (Oceanco 2000) and the 75.5m Anastasia (Oceanco 2008). Tim Wiltshire, Director and Sales Broker, says: “In 2018 the superyacht market looked robust and, despite the potential global economic headwinds, we expect 2019 to be another strong year. Q1 this year has borne that out with 10 yachts sold by Burgess already.”
Topline for Charter
The combined length of the Burgess charter fleet is 5.2km and during 2018 the fleet cruised a combined distance of 133,280nm, more than halfway to the moon. Motor yachts represented 78% of the charters booked and our busiest yacht was chartered for 24 weeks of the year. Over 40% of charters were one-week bookings with 20% for less than one week and the three most popular ports of embarkation were Naples, Monaco and Ibiza. Ben Harwood, Deputy Head of Charter Management, reports: “The charter market looks positive for 2019, reflected by a 15% increase in charter bookings on the Burgess fleet against the first quarter of 2018. The summer Mediterranean season will be particularly busy, with availability becoming harder to find, as many clients have decided to book their yacht charters earlier than usual.”
Topline for Burgess Technical Services
Burgess Technical Services was founded in 1987. Since then BTS has built and delivered 43 yachts on three continents with a combined length of over 4km and a total value of almost USD 6 billion. These include the largest yacht ever built by length, Azzam at 180m, and the largest yacht ever built by volume, Dilbar at 15,917GT. Sean Bianchi, Head of Burgess Technical Services, Naval Architect, says: “Burgess Technical Services had a very successful 2018 with the deliveries of Boat International World Superyacht Award Nominee Elandess, (74.5m Abeking & Rasmussen) and Bravo Eugenia (109m Oceanco). The team has hit the ground running this year with almost 400m of deliveries scheduled over the next nine months from five different shipyards and numerous others under construction and development.”
